An exceptional know-how Caudry lace, 2016 collection. Around 1835 - 1840, the adaptation of the jacquard system on the Leavers and the use of the steam engine brought the creation of lace into the industrial age. It was the start of a revolution which peaked between 1880 and 1914. The lace production in Calais and Caudry uses the same weaving techniques on Leavers. But in Calais lace is used for lingerie while Caudry works for haute-couture and ready-to-wear. The “Dentelle de Calais-Caudry” brand was registered in 1958. It is highly regulated. The Leavers looms the lace makers work on cannot be sold, if they are not bequeathed to successor lace makers, the looms are destroyed. The lace produced in these factories is always at the forefront of refinement and craftsmanship, as evidenced by the dress adorned with Caudry lace that the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, wore at her wedding.
